  • The Inland Mariners portrait series began in earnest several years ago, and has become
one of the most energizing projects I have undertaken. Long after cargoes have been loaded
and ships have left, my best memories have been the people I've met; the short conversations,
the hospitality, the knowledge shared on ships over the past three decades. These portraits are
designed to be quick, candid shots, capturing the faces of the men and the women that work on the
lakes. Over the years, some of these people have retired, some have changed careers, some have
passed on, and others still sail, and for me, they are a large part of my scrapbook of memories.
